Periodontal Treatment

At West Glades Dental, we focus on the overall health of our patients. One way we do that is by helping you achieve excellent gum health and protecting your smile with effective preventive treatment so that you can enjoy comfort and health for a lifetime!

Periodontal Health and Systemic Conditions

Healthy gums are the foundation of your oral health and have a dramatic impact on your overall wellness. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), more than half of adult Americans suffer from some level of periodontal (gum) disease.

Researchers have discovered links between periodontal disease and other health conditions such as heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and respiratory illnesses. Gum disease may also cause low birth-weight babies, putting your child’s health at risk.

Symptoms of Gum Disease

Though periodontal disease has many levels of severity, the early symptoms include:

  • Bleeding when you brush or floss
  • Swollen, red gums
  • Pain when cleaning teeth
  • Bad breath

Blood is a sign of trouble when it comes to your gums. If you find that your gums bleed when you brush or floss, it is time for a periodontal exam with Dr. Molero or Dr. Soto so we can help you get back on track.

Some symptoms of advanced periodontal disease include:

  • Pocketing around your gums
  • Pus
  • Tooth mobility
  • Gum recession
  • Sensitivity to temperature

Your gum health may change throughout your life and can be affected by hormones, medication, and medical conditions. By seeking periodontal treatment at our Boca Raton dental office, you can have a plan to keep gum infections under control.

In its early stages, we can often reverse periodontal disease with proper treatment. In its later stages, we can control the infection with proper care and keep you on an effective recare schedule to help you stay healthy. Customized dental cleanings – Some patients may require a regular dental cleaning while others could benefit from a series of dental cleanings that focus on removing bacteria and tartar. Our hygienists will perform dental cleanings based on what you need at this stage in your life.

Cleaning frequency – In order to restore your health, we may recommend that you come in for dental cleanings three to four times per year. Preventing tooth loss is much easier and more affordable than replacing lost teeth!

Antibiotic treatment – In the case of periodontal pocketing, we may place a localized antibiotic to assist with healing.

Periodontal surgery – Removing diseased tissue can help your gums heal. We have an on-site periodontist who is both skilled and extremely gentle at eliminating serious gum infections.
